Leash Law

According to City ordinances, dogs are not allowed to run-at-large even when taking them for a walk...they must be on a leash. Remember to clean up after them too when on walks.

Code 6.12.160 states: (a) "It is unlawful for any person to allow or permit any animal, including, but not limited to, dogs or cats, reptiles, insects, birds or amphibians, to run at-large upon the property of another, or to allow or permit such animal to run at-large on any public street, alley or other public ground of the city. It is the express intention of this regulation to prevent animals from running at-large and from trespassing upon public or private property..." (b) "It is unlawful for any person who keeps, harbors, maintains, or who has in his custody or control any dog to permit such dog to run at-large within the city at all during the year. All dogs must be chained or otherwise confined at all times so as not to reach the sidewalk or be present on another person's property, except that dogs may be taken out for exercise on sidewalks or streets, provided they are led on a chain or other controlling device by some person. No vaccinated dog shall be off the premises of the owner unless muzzled or upon a leash or accompanied by and under the control of its owner or a member of the owner's immediate family over the age of 12 years..."
